چکیده
Proofs are used both to assist or insure the solution of specific problems in mathematics and to provide the cement that holds together the construction of large-scale mathematical structures, such as the theory of real numbers or the theory of groups. In this and subsequent chapters, we shall be using proofs for a large-scale project, namely the construction of some of the most common number systems used in mathematics. We shall begin by constructing the natural numbers and then follow a classical path through the construction of the integers and rationals. The path then branches, with one branch leading to the development of the real numbers and the beginnings of analysis and the other with an algebraic focus. In part, this project may serve as an introduction to some important mathematical ideas. But in equal measure, it is intended as a display of proof techniques and of how proofs are used to build mathematical theories.

متن کاملUsnig LR-Fuzzy Numbers Data to Measure the Eciency and the Malmquist Productivity Index in Data Envelopment Analysis , and Its Application in Insurance Organizations
In many real applications, the data of production processes can't be precisely measured. We develop some fuzzy versions of the classical DEA models (in particular, the CCRmodel) by using some ranking methods based on the comparison of cuts. Our approachescan be seen as an extension of the DEA methodology. The provides users and practitionerswith models which represent some real life processes mo...
متن کاملSuperharmonic numbers
Let τ(n) denote the number of positive divisors of a natural number n > 1 and let σ(n) denote their sum. Then n is superharmonic if σ(n) | nkτ(n) for some positive integer k. We deduce numerous properties of superharmonic numbers and show in particular that the set of all superharmonic numbers is the first nontrivial example that has been given of an infinite set that contains all perfect numbe...
متن کاملOn the Ramsey numbers for linear forest versus some graphs
For given graphs G and H; the Ramsey number R(G;H) is the leastnatural number n such that for every graph F of order n the followingcondition holds: either F contains G or the complement of F contains H.In this paper firstly, we determine Ramsey number for union of pathswith respect to sunflower graphs, For m ≥ 3, the sunflower graph SFmis a graph on 2m + 1 vertices obtained...
متن کاملIntuitionistic notions of boundedness in N
We consider notions of boundedness of subsets of the natural numbers N that occur when doing mathematics in the context of intuitionistic logic. We obtain a new characterization of the notion of a pseudobounded subset and formulate the closely related notion of a detachably nite subset. We establish metric equivalents for a subset of N to be detachably nite and to satisfy the ascending chain ...
